IAQ Products to Help Your Customers Breathe Healthier This Flu Season

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, up to 20 percent of U.S. residents suffer from the flu, and more than 200,000 people are hospitalized for flu-related complications each year.

By assisting your customers with indoor air quality (IAQ) product selections and installations this fall, you can grow your business while protecting the health of your customers’ families. It’s a win-win for everyone.

Keep your customers healthy this year by recommending these two GeneralAire IAQ products for their households:

1.    Lessen bouts of colds and flu with the GeneralAire VectorFlo. The VectorFlo is a UV air purifier that uses a photochemical process known as photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) to create a safe photochemical reaction that kills infectious agents such as influenza, germs, bacteria and viruses.

During the reaction, a catalyst absorbs an ultraviolet C wavelength of light leaving you fresh odorless, biological free and toxin free indoor air. The catalyst has 3,400-square-inches of effective surface area. That is more than 100 times larger than the effective area of other catalyst products offered today, and it is important because this is where the oxidation process takes place, aggressively deconstructing gaseous contaminants, germs and bacteria while safely eliminating unwanted household odors in the air you breathe at home.

“The VectorFlo works like the sun outdoors to kill germs, bacteria and viruses, thereby reducing the occurrences of flu, colds and infection and keeping your family healthy,” said Tony Burks, director of sales for General Filters, Inc. “It’s 93.6 percent effective in eradicating viral and bacterial agents.”

2.    With a whole-house solution, dehumidifiers aren’t just for the summer months anymore. Though often only thought of as a solution for hot, humid summers, the GeneralAire Dehumidifier 1300 can provide drier, healthier, more comfortable air all year round.

The dehumidifier uses its control system to routinely sample the air, automatically turning the dehumidifier on or off to keep the relative humidity at your desired set point. It removes as much as 130 pints of moisture a day.

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers recommends keeping the relative humidity in a home between 40-60 percent. Outside that range, bacteria, fungi, mites and viruses—like the flu—thrive.

In addition, the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology recommends keeping indoor relative humidity below 51 percent to deter dust mites and boost overall comfort of the home. Health conditions that are aggravated by mold or dust mites can benefit from lower humidity levels.
